Compounding is the ageless art and science of preparing customized medications to fit individual patient needs. Compounded medications are ordered by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, veterinarian or other prescriber and mixed by a licensed compounding pharmacist in a safe and controlled environment.

We fill prescriptions for ALL of our Hometown Pharmacies. Please do not hesitate to contact us and discuss any of your questions.

  Is Compounding For You?
Physicians may prescribe an individually compounded medication for a patient to meet their specific health need. This allows the physician to customize a prescription for that particular individual. Compounded preparations are prescribed for various reasons, some of which may be:

  • Patients in need of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), available in a variety of dosage formulations such as capsules, creams, ointments, troches, gels, etc.
  • Patients requiring a different formulation, such as preparing a liquid, transdermal gel or cream for those who have a difficult time swallowing or tolerating tablets or capsules
  • Patients that have certain allergies to particular preservatives, dyes or inactive ingredients
  • Patients requiring specific dosage strengths that are not available from pharmaceutical manufacturers
  • Combining various compatible medications into a single dosage formulation for those patients taking multiple medications to improve compliance or to help with side effects
  • Pediatric and Veterinary medicine - prepare unique dosage formulations and/or flavor products for these special patient situations
  • Hospice and pain management specialties with many possibilities of dosage form and strength flexibilities
  • Offering many options for prescriptions, the possibilities are endless

History Of Compounding
Long before medications were manufactured by pharmaceutical companies, they were individually compounded by pharmacists for each specific patient need. The need for these medications were in such high demand the compounding pharmacists began to mass manufacture certain drugs. We are now starting to realizing that these manufacturers cannot fully fill the needs of every patient. This is where we come in, to once again individualize patient medication therapy.

As in the past, the compounding pharmacist practices the art and science of preparing prescribed prescriptions and is known as the “problem solver”. Today, this is essential in the triad relationship of the patient, physician and pharmacist as we can all work together to solve your (the patient's) unique health need.
